CryoSense

IoT System for Cold Chain Monitoring

Customer: Food distribution company with a network of cold rooms and refrigerated vehicles for transporting perishable goods.

Challenge: Ensure continuous and reliable monitoring of temperature and humidity in low-temperature environments, even in the absence of stable connectivity. It was necessary to automate data collection for HACCP compliance and reduce manual interventions by technical staff.

Solution implemented:

Hardware based on Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4: SHT35 precision digital sensors with ±0.2 °C and ±1.5 % RH accuracy, I²C bus communication, redundant power supply system, and hardware watchdog for continuous operation.

Firmware and embedded software: developed in Python 3 with periodic acquisition logic, I²C error handling, local caching on MariaDB, automatic reconnection, and data synchronization with remote backend.

Offline-first architecture: each device operates autonomously, records data locally, and synchronizes it with the central database on Google Cloud SQL as soon as connectivity is available.

Web dashboard and alerting: responsive web interface for historical and real-time data visualization, automatic email notifications when thresholds are exceeded, automatic export of HACCP reports in PDF format.

Results:

  • Reliable 24/7 monitoring with redundant data storage
  • Complete elimination of manual temperature data collection
  • Automatically generated HACCP reports with annual history
  • Significant reduction in false alarms and preventive inspections
Smart Agriculture

LoRaWAN Sensor Network for Precision Farming

Client: Farm with 100 hectares of intensive crops

Challenge: Optimize irrigation and fertilization based on real data on soil moisture, air temperature, and rainfall. Reduce water waste and improve yields while keeping costs down.

Solution implemented:

Wireless sensor network: 25 LoRaWAN nodes distributed over 100 hectares, multi-depth capacitive soil moisture sensors, weather stations with temperature/humidity/pressure/wind/rain, solar panels for autonomous power supply.

IoT Gateway: 3 LoRaWAN gateways with 10km range coverage, 4G backhaul to the cloud, management of 1000+ nodes, secure AES-128 protocol.

Decision-making platform: Dashboard with interactive maps, predictive algorithms for optimal irrigation, automatic alerts on critical issues, integration with solenoid valves for irrigation automation.

Frequently asked questions

The cost depends on the complexity of the project, the technologies involved, production volumes, and the degree of integration required. Each electronic board is unique and is developed based on the customer’s technical specifications and functional objectives. Before providing any quote, we always carry out a free preliminary assessment to define the architecture, components, and possible cost optimizations. The goal is to propose a solution that is sustainable, scalable, and industrializable from the very first version.

Development times vary depending on hardware complexity, component availability, firmware activities, and validation. After the technical analysis and circuit design phase, we follow a clear workflow that includes PCB design, production, assembly, functional testing, and optimization. With an agile and iterative approach, we progressively share the results with the customer so that they can verify and validate the functionality as work progresses. Each project has a customized work plan, defined during the quotation phase.

Yes. We always design with compliance by design in mind, minimizing the changes required during certification. We collaborate with accredited laboratories for EMC testing, electrical safety, and industry regulations (industrial, consumer, automotive, medical). We support our customers throughout all stages: pre-compliance testing, laboratory selection, technical documentation preparation, and assistance during official testing.

Yes, upon completion of the project, we deliver all source files and complete documentation: schematics, PCB files (Altium or KiCad), Gerber files, BOM, commented firmware, and API documentation. The customer retains full intellectual property rights to the project and is free to choose their manufacturing partner. We also offer post-project support for evolutionary maintenance, firmware updates, and ongoing technical assistance.

Yes. We also support the customer during the industrialization and production phase, collaborating with qualified PCB partners and assemblers in Italy and Europe. We assist with the definition of the NPI (New Product Introduction) process, sample validation, quality control, and DFM (Design For Manufacturing) optimization. In this way, we accompany the customer through to mass production, ensuring technical consistency and cost reduction.

We always sign an NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) before starting any technical discussions. All project files are managed on secure infrastructure with controlled access. We never reuse proprietary designs or firmware between different clients. Documentation and source code remain the exclusive property of the client. Upon request, we can also provide legal support for IP protection and product patenting.
