Dissatisfied with your employees?

The fault may not be their own….

An entrepreneur who hires an employee is paying him for his time. The employee’s productivity is proportional to the return on investment: the more he produces, the more the company will earn. But there are instances when the failure to meet goals may not have been his fault….

What are the objective factors?

Have you ever wondered whether the slow pace of production can be attributable to technological factors? Have you provided all the appropriate tools for the employee to enable him or her to perform his or her job with maximum efficiency?

If you have him working on an outdated PC, most of the problems probably lie there. If a PC takes 10 minutes to turn on, you have paid 2.50 euros gross that time to the employee to do nothing (10 minutes a day on an annual basis amounts to 840 euros gross! How many state-of-the-art tools could you have bought?).

Therefore, it would be the case to analyze things objectively, even trying to perform his tasks to understand why he is so slow before firing unkind phrases at him that could further impair his performance instead of spurring him on to do more. After all, it is now well known that an employee produces more if he is working in favorable environmental conditions.

Often and frequently, during the counseling phases, we found that the failure of one or more employees to meet their daily goals was due precisely to issues related to the equipment in place. Other times to outdated data processing and handling methods.

Of course, the entrepreneur often does not master the use of technology. This is why he or she should rely on consulting services such as those we provide at RENOR & Partners, where we analyze the flow to discover critical issues in the supply chain in order to identify technological and operational solutions that can decimate processing times.

Sometimes it takes very little

Workstation 4 monitors + Graphics tablet

State-of-the-art workstation.

Sometimes very little is needed to increase productivity. Shown in the figure is a workstation consisting of 4 monitors + a monitor/graphing tablet.

There are those who might say that this configuration is exaggerated…. It depends of course on the needs.

For a Full Stack developer this is the desirable workstation. On one monitor the source code, on the second the browser showing previews of changes made to the front-end, on the third PhpMyAdmin for database management, on the fourth the FTP client for uploading files, and on the graphics tablet an instance of Photoshop or Illustrator for example to remove the background of an image quickly.

If the same developer were to work using a laptop computer it would probably take three times as long just to have to move from window to window.

Theinvestment for such a workstation is negligible when one considers the return in productivity. A developer with such a workstation would produce at least two and a half times what the same employee could produce with a single screen. It follows that the work done in one month in the former case would be done in three months by the latter.

If you think about it, it is only a matter of buying a few monitors at a cost of 120 euros each instead of having to pay two salaries out-of-pocket!

Other times you have to search the flow

It also happens that the employee has respectable workstations but cannot produce as much as he could because of outdated processing systems. When you consider that even today most companies work with excel sheets using them as a database!

In this case, the advice of IT experts is absolutely necessary. Today, there are state-of-the-art technological solutions that make it possible to decimate data processing time and zero margin of error in addition to possessing a number of features that guarantee its security and access to the data according to GDPR standards. To this end, it is worth mentioning that non-compliance with the 679/2016 (GDPR) regulations can produce fines of up to 5 percent of annual gross revenue.
